CD REVIEW: Radio Junkies – “Volume 1”
By Stacey Board - 09/06/2002 - 12:53 AM EDT

Artist: Band: Radio Junkies
Album: “Volume 1”
CD Review: Gin Blossoms, Matchbox 20 and all the rest of you, watch your back. These guys are coming up behind you with their melodic ‘pop guns’ loaded.

The Radio Junkies deserve their press comparison to the Bare Naked Ladies. They do a great job of weaving dry wit into memorable melodies and bouncy rhythms. Their lyrics in every song are always entertaining and engaging.

“Scary (Christopher Walken)” is a clever little tune with nice harmony work and a driving guitar throughout, and is one of my favorites. Other picks include “Mother Mary” and “Crazy For Her” which I think include the stronger vocal performances.

All of the players are solid, with some really nice tight arrangement. The name Scharff is all over the credits – two are brothers I believe, with another relative in there for good measure. These three do most of the songwriting and most of the production also, in varying combinations. They have done a fine job of compiling a group of sharp pop songs.
