CD REVIEW: Kenny Camacho - "Long And Overdue"
By Gian F - 11/29/2002 - 11:09 PM EST

Artist: Kenny Camacho
Album: "Long And Overdue"
CD Review: Genre: R&B
Sounds Like: Jon Secada/Luis Miguel
Technical Grade: 5
Production/Musicianship Grade: 5
Commercial Value: 5
Overall Talent Level: 8
Songwriting Skills: 7
Performance Skill: 8
Best Songs: Lady In Red, If I Could Turn Back Time, Love From A Stone, Never Giving Up
Weakness: Dated production. Low quality recording.
CD Review: I heard just 3 notes come out of this guys mouth, and I braced myself to blown out of this world...but before the rocket could launch, his production team disabled it and kept me from sailing into orbit. I appreciate the keyboard playing skills, and the desire to display those skills, but too many fills and musical adlibs diminished the effectiveness of what I will call one of the best unknown male vocalists I have heard this year. Song, after song, I kept waiting for his production team to just turn him loose and it never happened.
Advice: Have your producers pull back the production during the verses in your future projects so your voice can take center stage.
