CD REVIEW: Kyle Vincent – Solitary Road
By Ben Ohmart - 12/23/2002 - 04:31 PM EST

Artist: Kyle Vincent
Album: Solitary Road
CD Review: Those of us who have already heard Kyle Vincent will remember his style instantly, as soon as Solitary Road warms up past the kid ‘Intro.’ His style is half like Air Supply (concerned with impassioned ballads with a high-ish clear voice), half like Queen laying down enough vocals for a ‘You’re My Best Friend’ remake, half (!) like a melodic George Harrison who finds himself released from the prison we call Beatles in this new century’s recording technology.

Power pop? Perhaps. Love songs that uplift more than damn for listening to alone? Oh yes. The new package consists of

Intro
You Will Dance Again
Everything
Let Me Let Go
Lovin' Everything You Do
I Sing For You
Magically
It's Too Late
Away
Our Song
Remember Me
Bridge
Sierra
If I Had Anything
Outro

The critics loved his previous major label effort, Wow and Flutter which had 5 songs placed on the MTV series Daria and charted in some interesting places. Ditto for his Hollywood Records 1997 self-titled debut album (well, not the Daria part). With his own new stuff and a jazzy cover of ‘It’s Too Late,’ Solitary Roads is destined for the same greatest.

He’s also incredibly helpful in charity – which deserves its own paragraph. He sings songs to help people, he gives away some of the $ he earns to help others.

And the music, though geared toward the soft-hearted, deserves featured airplay.
