Artist: Russ McRee Album: “Tree Falls” CD Review:
“Tree Falls” is a four-song collection by Seattle based singer/songwriter Russ McRee.
Throughout the songs he gives us a nice acoustic guitar sound and vocals. His guitar work is varied and interesting and he plays well. He also shows a sense of humor in “Bears”, the first track.
All in all because there are only four songs on the CD it came across to me more of an EP or demo. Each song is solo acoustic guitar and solo vocal arrangement. He’s done good work here however. The third song “The Menu” reminds me of something Lou Reed influenced. He does some especially nice guitar playing on this song. “Tree Falls” seems like a long lost Jethro Tull unplugged track, message oriented and melodic.
What I hear is well done and definitely shows talent. If you’d like a taste or sample of this Northwest singer/songwriter this is worth your listen.
