Artist: Band: Nuts In Your Mouth
Album: Guaranteed To Like It If You Got A Ass
CD Review: Genre: Rap
Sounds Like: The Beastie Boys with out the performance or rapping skills
Technical Grade: 6
Production/Musicianship Grade: 6
Commercial Value: 6
Overall Talent Level: 6
Songwriting Skills: 6
Performance Skill: 6
Best Songs: Porn And Chicken, Suburban Ninja
Weakness: Lack of strong structure
CD Review: This CD was interesting. I know most artists would much rather have someone say unequivocally that their music "sucks" than to ambiguously describe it as "interesting." Even describing it as "neat" would be more revealing, but less accurate.

The problem is that the guys in Nuts In Your Mouth, are not "neat." They are in fact, very crude. So what! If you have been paying attention to modern pop culture, being crude and rude are a new lifestyle choice for many of today's teens. These guys have vivid imaginations and creative flair ("Suburban Ninja"). What they are desperately in need of is song structure.

Even in rap (especially commercially successful rap) there is song structure. The closest they came to that was on their best song, "Porn And Chicken." It's cool to take a creative approach to doing music, but at some point (before getting 1 minute into a song) the song will have to stand on its own and any dramatic shananigans you used to compensate for the "meat" of your song will become quickly exposed.

Advice: You guys are not the most talented rappers, but you have a strong sense of identity, create songs that cater more to the individual and collective personality of the group. That should help you break through...and keep it "interesting."
