CD REVIEW: The Knights – In Progression
By Ben Ohmart - 04/02/2003 - 10:50 PM EST

Artist: The Knights
Album: In Progression
CD Review: Ever heard prog surf music? You have if you know the Stewart family:

Jason Stewart – modern guitar
Dick Stewart – traditional guitar
Ritch Stewart – bass
Steve Hudgins – percussions

play 38 minutes worth of 3rd Rock From the Sun, but with a twist that leads in many rock directions. That’s progressive music for ya.

But more than that, it’s a clean vein of instrumental pop that seems to tell some sort of story, without the sheer pomp of The Who and the like. Quite well done. And worthy of extra applause, seeing as how there are too few family bands out there. Though you might be taken back to the 1960s with The Knights’ tone, this ain’t no Patridge Family. Heavy on the bendy guitar, they do everything the Beatles did to get a nation grooving, minus the flat harmonies.
