Artist: The Kicks
Album: "The Kicks"
CD Review: Genre: Pop Rock
Sounds Like: Sum 41
Technical Grade: 8
Production/Musicianship Grade: 6
Commercial Value: 9
Overall Talent Level: 7
Songwriting Skills: 8
Performance Skill: 8
Best Songs: Pop Star Radio Crown, Banana Seat, Bomb, Radar
Weakness: Lack of musical expertise.
CD Review: When I received this anonymous package of 3 CDs with no correspondence or information about the bands whose recordings were in the package, I started to throw it in the trash, but for some strange reason, I kept the package and decided to listen to them. The first two did not meet my minimum criteria of having an an overall score of 5, so they were not reviewed. Then I got to the Kick's. I literally got a kick out of this CD. (I just couldn't resist that one.)

The band is not musically gifted by any means, but they enthusiastically and energetically play their asses off within their limitations. They have songs that radio and the industry will just love. None of the usual industry b.s. about "developing" them for the future can be said here; the future is NOW for this band. With songs that are tight, concise, and oozing with personality, these guys should be opening for the top Rock bands in the business and getting serious air play.

Advice: I don't know anything about XS Records, but I do know when a record company has a money making machine in its possession. Get this band the marketing and promotions they need to get to the next level!
