CD Review: Serah - "late harvest"
By Stacey Board - 07/17/2003 - 10:56 PM EDT

Artist: Serah
Album: "late harvest"
CD Review: The first track "I Think I Know" has a Paul Simon "Rhythm of the Saints" meets Peter Gabriel feel which is somewhat consistant through the CD. There is a definite world music/African beat sound to the arrangements that is very well done. I also feel this is one of the strongest tracks on the CD. It has a playful interesting lyric and energy that is very pleasing.

There are 13 songs on the CD, that include four cover tunes. The cover tunes "Stand By Me", "Sailing", "Crazy Love" and "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" don't stand up as well as the original songs in my opinion. Serah's melodies and lyrics are simple and sweet, but it's the arrangement and detail that really shine. The vocal and rythmic additions stand out and make the sound much more rich and unique.

Some Songs like "Psalm Song" are more meditations. "Catching Fireflies" and "Inner Voice Dialogues" have a nice movement and energy that balances out some of the slower airier songs.

Many of the songs express her personal discoveries and spiritual philosophy.
As a whole its a very atmospheric richly arranged CD that's a hybrid of New Age sensibility and a World Music flavor.
