Artist: Gwen Jennier Album: “You’ve Got To Believe” CD Review:
“You’ve Got To Believe” is a varied collection of songs about Jennier’s Christian faith. The arrangements are lush and sophisticated without ever crossing that very fine line to become “shlocky”. I really like the choices of arrangements and the layered back up vocals. They add nice texture and richness.
The CD has an overall adult contemporary sound, but Jennier uses assorted musical styles to convey her message. There is reggae, pop, touches of gospel and a hint of country. “Wondrous Love Wondrous Nature” is an upbeat catchy tune with a great energy. The different musical approaches add nice variety.
Jennier’s voice is very smooth, mellow and pleasing. She writes the music and co-writes lyrics with Peg McCraw. There is also a lot of teamwork going on between Jennier and Producer Heidi Gerber. They make a very good team and this is a very well produced professional sounding CD.
This CD is obviously a labor of love and devotion and Jennier has made a rich well polished CD of songs that convey her feelings of faith.
