CD REVIEW: Livio Guardi & Wilson Montuori - 'Diomedee'
By Steve Allat - 01/22/2004 - 03:44 PM EST

Artist: Livio Guardi & Wilson Montuori
Album: 'Diomedee'
CD Review: Label: Independent
Tracks: 12
Released: 2003
For Fans Of:: Acoustic Guitar
Fav Track: Anima, Bossa Triste Metropolitana.

There's a depth and timelessness to music with roots in 'the old country' that you just don't hear very often on this side of the pond. It's beautiful to hear the 'simple' acoustic guitar come to life with an entirely different emotion emanating from within, as produced by the likes of Livio and Wilson.
Listening to this crafty duo pick and strum their way through their third CD is like closing your eyes and letting the wind blow across your face as you relax on the beach somewhere in the Mediterranean without a care in the world.

Although most of the lyrics are in Italian, it doesn't really seem to matter. Quite a few of the selections are instrumental, and that's where these guys shine. Even behind the voice on the vocal tracks, you will find yourself listening to the intricate playing which seems to flow effortlessly. After 10 years playing together, it sounds like they're in the groove.

What else can I say?
I would highly recommend this CD to anyone who is interested in some easy-listening, romantic Italian, emotionally acoustic guitar music unlike much of what they are hearing these days.

While their music is not the same as the Gypsy Kings or Duoud (both from France), the feeling inspired is similar enough to say that fans of those groups will appreciate these guys for their playing, sense of style, and dedication to bringing the sound of their homeland to the public.
