CD REVIEW: Arlington Priest – “Arlington Priest”
By Stacey Board - 06/23/2004 - 10:02 PM EDT

Artist: Band: Arlington Priest
Album: “Arlington Priest”
CD Review: Arlington Priest is a powerfully talented roots duo. They both are strong singing talents, and duo partner Rhett Miller is a powerful guitar player and songwriter to boot.

His wife and duo partner Jill Priest is no slouch, bringing her substantial and soulful chops and perfect harmonies to the mix. The both have rich vocals and Priest has a touch of blues sliding around the edges too which is great.

The songwriting is searching, intimate and almost confessional. They often touch on spiritual topics and make spiritual metaphors. All the songs are melodically intriguing and captivating. Their harmonies glide together seemingly effortlessly. They both have a great ear for what works melodically.

I wish there were more than 7 songs on this CD because I liked every one of them very much.

“Arlington Priest” is a collection of strong songs beautifully written performed and sung. Write down their name and drop it in CD listeners’ conversation so you can say “I told you about them way back when”. This duo has a bright future ahead.
