CD REVIEW: Greg Hyde - "Testing The Water"
By Stacey Board - 11/18/2004 - 03:40 PM EST

Artist: Greg Hyde
Album: Testing The Water
CD Review: "Testing the Water" is a labor of love from a talented songwriter and player.

Hyde is a fine guitar player with a range of styles and techniques. Track 5, "Measure Loving You", sounds like a classic Cat Stevens tune. Others reflect more of an influence from someone like Van Morrison or Jimmy Buffett. Hyde expresses an emotional range in his songwriting. He has touching love songs, a tribute to American ingenuity and songs that are just plain fun.

The arrangements are all voice and guitar without added instruments. The result is a very intimate direct sound that shows off Hyde's skilled guitar playing. His voice is versatile but sometimes paints just slightly outside the lines. It does not however detract from the sincere enjoyable songs that are skillfully played.
