CD REVIEW: Kate Redgate - "Rough Tracks"
By Stacey Board - 11/18/2004 - 03:57 PM EST

Artist: Kate Redgate
Album: Rough Tracks
CD Review: Right off the bat I really was drawn in by Redgate's rich smoky strong voice. This is a woman who feels what she is singing. She is not just singing the words and hitting the notes as much as she is singing the heart of it. Her expressive vocals and interesting lyrical storytelling make this sparse CD of voice and guitar work.

She also has a fine sense of rhythm and groove. This is no oversensitive waif, this is a songwriter with intelligence, attitude and muscle.

When I gave "Rough Tracks" a listen I realized the title had nothing to do with the simple arrangements or the songs themselves being in any way unfinished. I came away with the sense that the rough tracks were the paths Redgate had travelled down in the songs she gives us here. Redgate is a talented songwriter with a voice brimming with heart and soul.
