Artist: Vicki Lee Album: “Crossin’ On Over” CD Review:
Vicki Lee has a lot of help from her friends. Lee does most of the singing and melody writing and Laura Smith does most of the lyric writing. However, Lee has quite a group of friends that also co-write, sing, produce and arrange. That is what I think adds to the party atmosphere of this CD. It also adds to the diversity of the sound.
The songs are often bluesy and rocking and some have a country touch. The overall vibe is like a fun night in a honky tonk. But there are also some gentle heartfelt ballads.
Lee has a growling honky tonk voice also. She can purr and belt it out with the best of them. Think Linda Rondstat’s CD that covered lots of rocking covers like “Tumblin’ Dice” and “You’re No Good” and you get an idea of the sound and feel of “Crossin’ On Over”. It’s an enjoyable fun ride put together by a talented bunch.
