CD REVIEW: Two One Nine - "219"
By Stacey Board - 02/26/2005 - 04:10 PM EST

Artist: Band: Two One Nine
CD Review: Barenaked Ladies better watch their back. A talented newcomer is right on their tails.

In fact they might want to put in a call to their lawyers as “Antipasti Insomniac” is dangerously similar in guitar licks and melody to “Pinch Me”.

Don’t misunderstand me, Two One Nine is fun and intelligent music and very enjoyable.

Two One Nine’s main writer is J. Williams, who does have some very clever and humorous lyrics, also like Barenaked Ladies. It is perfectly fine to have influences and use them as your foundation. But as Williams continues to write I hope he continues to flesh out his own ‘voice’.

Everything people love about Barenaked Ladies they will love about Two One Nine. These songs are funny, sweet, clever and expertly played. In fact the production and guest players are all quite solid and impressive.

This is definitely an entertaining CD and I look forward to the music written by J. Williams coming into its own singular voice.
