CD REVIEW: Kilgore Trout - "Novocaine"
By Stacey Board - 04/19/2005 - 09:18 PM EDT

Artist: Band: Kilgore Trout
CD Review: Novocaine is a title that implied to me trancey cough syrup thick melodies and moods, but Kilgore Trout gives us almost the exact opposite. Happily, I might add.

There is a tremendous amount of energy coming out of this music for only four people. There is definitely a wall of guitars and voices involved in here somehow, and I’m not sure how they packed all of them into their three-song CD.

Track one is sparkly jangly guitar pop. They get a little deliciously dissonant on the second track, a la Pixies perhaps. The third track is then a well muscled intricate anthem. And then – blip! They are gone.

Novocaine is a sampler platter that should whet your appetite for more, uh, Trout.
