CD Review:
Genre: Rap Sounds Like: ? Technical Grade: 9 Production/Musicianship Grade: 8 Commercial Value: 8 Overall Talent Level: 8 Songwriting Skills: 8 Performance Skill: 8 Best Songs: Single Weakness: ? CD Review: I met Noni Galloway, the CEO of Oakstar Entertainment who represents The Attik, while guest lecturing at her class on Artist Management. She's not only bright, but apparently has a bright future in the music industry that can be paved with her group's trailblazing single that benefits from a funky, Neo-Soul flavored, head-bobbing beat. It's a simple song with a simple sentiment that should stick at radio and it features a chorus that you just can't resist singing along with:
"I ain't got money in large amounts, I can't buy you things that's fine...my mama told me it's the thought that counts and I think about you all the time...I won't buy you diamonds, can't cash you out, but I will put you in my ride...cause my mama told me it's the thought that counts so I think about you all the time..."
That's a good hook and a "real" statement from rappers who have the maturity and audacity to admit such things in this bling-bling, MTV Cribs era. While the topic may not be flashy and the lyrics may not be hard, the message is clear and will be well-received by radio audiences who give this PG rated track half a chance.
Advice: Push this track to radio.
