CD Review: I received a project from a group that Quincy Jones (that's right the Quincy Jones, mega producer of the top R&B artists of our time including Michael Jackson) referred to as "the baddest vocal cats on the planet." They have also received eighteen Grammy nominations; eight Grammy Awards; ten Dove Awards; two NAACP awards; and one Soul Train Award. Could they be adding a Muse's Muse Award to that list? We'll have to wait and see.

If you are not familiar with Takes 6 you should know that where most groups end in terms of fine tuning their vocals, Take 6 begins. Their precision and prowess in crafting layered harmonies and intricate vocal arrangements make them the creme de la creme of vocal groups from a musician's standpoint, but it's their vocal blend that really distinguishes in the minds and ears of music lovers. Their awesome blend is featured prominently in every track on this CD. They succeed on that level, but what about a commercial level?

It's been a while since there has been an a cappella song to receive heavy rotation at R&B or AC radio for that matter. If it were to happen, it should happen with the quintessential a cappella group in the industry. The song they can make it happen with is "More Than Ever," which has their patented tight harmonies stacked on a rolling bed of bass notes that give it a strong urban appeal. Other stand out songs on this project include the uptempo track, "Feels Good," "This Is Another Day," "Family Of Love," and the theatrical, barbershop quartet sounding "Just In Time."

Congratulations on 20 years in the business Take 6! I'm sure it Feels Good to be back.

Advice: Pursue radio airplay! A song like "More Than Ever" can be serviced to multiple outlets and audiences.
