CD Review: Chayah (pronounced kai-yah), a singer/songwriter from the San Francisco Bay Area, submitted a four song EP that admirably showcases her talents and her budding potential as a premier vocalist.

The project's opening song and most commercial track, "Love You Boy" is a dreamy and melodic introduction to Chayah's angelic soprano voice which is beautifully accented by lush harmonies. It resonated with attendees at one of my workshops (FACE THE MUSIC!) where I met Chayah, and it won the FACE THE MUSIC! challenge, a head-to-head songwriting competition in which one song is selected as the best and most likely to (commercially) succeed by musicians, songwriters, and producers in attendance.

While this EP is more of a demo (that includes an a cappella version of the "Star Spangled Banner"), it offers a very incisive glimpse into Chayah's musical strengths and the creative direction that she is headed. Now all she needs are more producers to fortify her commercial viability, and a team of professionals to support her talents and vision.

Advice: Update your sound. There's a fine line between between conventional R&B and Adult Contemporary which is a very, very difficult genre to break into as a young artist. A qualified producer will help you strike a delicate, yet strategic balance between the two.
