By Gian F - 10/18/2006 - 11:14 PM EDT
Artist: Shakti
Album: "Shakti"
CD Review:
Genre: Dance Sounds Like: ? Technical Grade: 9 Production/Musicianship Grade: 9 Commercial Value: 8 Overall Talent Level: 7 Songwriting Skills: 8 Performance Skill: 7 Best Songs: Shakti, who obtained a Bachelor of Music Degree at the esteemed Berklee College of Music, is the self-proclaimed first Indian Hip-Pop Diva, who sent me a CD that is is polished and commercially viable.
While Shakti is not going to win any awards for her vocal skills, she is easily the leading candidate for my Muse's Muse Award for best Dance project for 2006 with songs that are sexy and provocative in both production and content, her knack for conjuring up sensual imagery is undeniable - and well deserved, she has pursued various dance styles like Bharthanatyam (Classical Indian dance), Hip-Hop and Belly Dance at the Egyptian Academy of Oriental Dance. "Let Me Dance For You" captures is a track that captures her essence and gives her a platform to display both her musical and dance skills.
The project's best and most commercial track, the mid tempo "My Heart Belongs To You," has massive cross over appeal and can infiltrate AC radio with the right push. The perfect complement is "Say You'll Never Me," a delightful house track with a sing-a-long chorus that is sure to please radio listeners and club goers.
Advice: Market and promote your brand, as well as your music.
