CD REVIEW: Obstacle Illusion - Two Roads
By Eliot Popkin - 06/25/2002 - 05:56 AM EDT

Artist: Band: Obstacle Illusion
Album: Two Roads
CD Review: Obstacle Illusion is a 4 piece inspirational outfit from Pennsylvania. Their inspirational message is obvious throughout, yet it is never in your face in a judgmental way. A fine example is "Sarah Laughs", where the lyric sings "Sarah laughs in the face of fear, Sarah laughs right through the storm, Sarah laughs with the strength and the will to go on." I hear a lot of these songs as closing credits of a movie scroll, probably due to the inspirational nature.

"Highland In Zion" begins with a real pretty guitar line, which is further evidence that this doesn't sound like "your parents'" inspirational music. This sounds like radio-friendly pop-rock, which is exactly what the band was trying to do. The band sounds so tight and full, like one complete unit. Overall, this is very pleasing music if non-believers can look beyond the lyrics and enjoy the music for what it is. As Obstacle Illusion says, "Your love is sweet honey on my lips." Inspiration never sounded so good.
