CD REVIEW: Manose – Suskera, Solo Bamboo Flute
By Ben Ohmart - 09/21/2002 - 07:52 PM EDT

Artist: Manose
Album: Suskera- Solo Bamboo Flute
CD Review: It is a shame that, like opera, certain music will always have limited appeal. Then again, the ‘art’ in ‘artist’ should still mean that it is the production of beauty that counts, not the increasing awareness of profit motive in music, painting and every other high art form forced to starve and suffer.

Manose, the champion bamboo flutist of Nepal, is not suffering. He is giving concerts at the Asian Festival in Switzerland, the Nepali Embassy in Germany and touring France with his soft instrument. His skill is not open to question and his lightness of touch on the 3 tracks on this particular release make it a pleasure to keep the beauteous work on Repeat Play.

The shortest track is 15.5 minutes, the longest 21 minutes. Well, the 3rd is nearly 22 minutes as well. So you add it up. To me it comes out to some eclectic, driving stuff.
