CD Review: Guy Bergeron - "Post-Hip"
By Stacey Board - 07/17/2003 - 11:01 PM EDT

Artist: Guy Bergeron
Album: "Post-Hip"
CD Review: I don't know what this CD is "Post" but I can tell you what it currently IS. It IS a fabulous sounding pop record with songs well fleshed out, played, sung and recorded. Bergeron is chanelling Boston's great fat guitar lick hooks and Warren Zevon's wit and humor. And the ghosts of the Allman Brothers came by and snuck in a hint of southern rock flavor to make this wicked concoction and my happiness complete.

At the beginning of track three he alarmed me a bit with the programmed dance beat sound but when I eyed the title "little miss big shoes" and heard the juicy funk licks begin to swirl around... and heard "she puts the boys in the office in a wicked good mood"... I was completely loving this song.

I have the pleasure of listening to a lot of CD's that are very good but it's always a special treat when I'm pulled in and don't know where I'm going to be taken. This CD is full of songs that have me sucked in and listening for where he's going. And by the way, when he rocks out Muddy Waters' "Howlin Wolf", he sounds eerily like Stevie Ray Vaughn. That's a very very very good thing.

These songs are packed with wit, intelligence, catchy hooks, great playing and a fun energy in the sound. If the music business made any sense at all, Guy Bergeron's "Post-Hip" would be in your CD player right now. But don't wait for those pigs to fly, check out this CD now.
