CD REVIEW: Darren Curtis Skanson, Andrew Thomas Harling and Russell Donnellon - A Quiet Moment
By Ben Ohmart - 11/12/2003 - 04:18 PM EST

Artist: Darren Curtis Skanson
Album: Andrew Thomas Harling and Russell Donnellon - A Quiet Moment
CD Review: Darren Curtis Skanson's last 2 cds charted 8 and 11 on Billboard's Top Classical Chart. A difficult thing to do, considering classical music doesn't have the hype that pop can pull. However, the fact that his latest guitar album, with the aid of guitarists Andrew Thomas Harling and Russell Donnellon, skirts the new age and low key genres will help A Quiet Moment find a Lot of support from those who never venture beyond the glass door in Tower Records.

Beauty. Sweetness. As the aptly named title suggests, a quiet moment. These you will find in

Ave Maria
Theme and Variations on Allegretto from Symphony #7 (Beethoven)
Reflections
Recuerdos de la Alhambra
Shenandoah
Sheep May Safely Graze
Caminata
A Quiet Moment with My Guitar
Cavatina - Theme from The Deer Hunter
Scarborough Faire

It's one of the best lite albums out this year, ably backed up by gorgeous string work on many of the tracks. And since we're approaching the hollardays, there's not a better work of music you could buy for lighting candles and trying to shout down relatives. Everyone should instantly ease up once the Darren has a go. Relieve the stress and buy.
