CD Review: Stuart Weber’s guitar weeps the words “gift” and “discipline” simultaneously each time a string vibrates.

This CD is a varied collection of fingerstyle instrumentals written and performed by an astounding player. He is capable of expressing gentle beauty and electrifying passion from one song to the next. There is genuine emotion expressed here that goes far beyond the execution of expert technique. That Weber’s got and then some.

Songs like “Gallatin Jig” are at the same time melodic in a hypnotic way but imaginative enough to keep you on the metaphorical edge of your seat.
With other titles like “Hired Man’s Dream” and “Red White & Yellowstone” you get the idea that this is a hybrid of the gentleman farmer and the virtuoso. He has fused together many influences and disciplines and speaks them in his own voice as a fourth generation Montana native.

Most of the songs are Weber’s guitar only. But some like “Anniversary Waltz” have some added cello while a few others have added harp, percussion, electric bass, string bass. You can hear Weber’s focus, intensity and joy in each of the 16 wonderful songs.
