CD REVIEW: Robb Bledsoe – “Mile Marker 49”
By Stacey Board - 06/23/2004 - 08:47 PM EDT

Artist: Robb Bledsoe
Album: “Mile Marker 49”
CD Review: Mile Marker 49 is definitely a labor of love from Robb Bledsoe. These are 14 songs that are sung from the heart and from life experience. On four songs Bledsoe shares songwriting credit and one is a traditional tune arranged by Bledsoe. The other 9 songs are written by Bledsoe.

There is a sweet swing style to many of the songs. The instrumentation is simple and uses lots of acoustic guitars with some electric decorations, bass and drums. The acoustic guitar playing and lyrics are up front with the melodic vocals. The acoustic guitar playing throughout is very strong.

One of the strongest songs in my opinion is track four “Because I Love You”. It has a timeless cowboy melody that is perfectly suited to Bledsoe’s playing and singing style. I hear country influences and also western traditional influences on “Mile Marker 49”.

Sometimes Bledsoe’s lead vocals stray a little off pitch but he always sings sincerely and with emotion. Fans of John Denver and Gene Autry for that matter will enjoy this acoustic guitar based, western tinged songwriting.
