CD REVIEW: Indra’s Web – “Good Life Goin’”
By Stacey Board - 09/18/2004 - 03:07 PM EDT

Artist: Band: Indra’s Web
Album: “Good Life Goin’”
CD Review: Sparse liner notes in “Good Life Goin’” indicate Indra’s Web is a trio of Tim Reynolds, Justin Houser and Warren Brower. Lyrics and music are credited to all three men. I’m not positive who sings or plays where. But the music is a fine collection of contemporary folk songs played from the heart.

Some of the songs rock and some are mellow but they are seamless in their style of introspection and reflection. That is not to say they are all downbeat or slow ballads. They all have strong energy and a groove that will get under your skin.

The arrangements are spare but I would not use the word sparse. They are based on acoustic guitar and voices. The harmonies are full and lovely with the male voices blending well. To me their tasteful use of harmony is the strongest part of the sound. They could be described as a male three-piece Indigo Girls. The song is the star and the arrangements do not distract from that.

All of the songs are melodic and pleasingly loose and relaxed. They have a mellow sun-drenched, hang out with your friends on the porch vibe to them. This is a great CD to have on hand to play for fans of REM, David Grey or Indigo Girls.
