CD REVIEW: Tom Barabas - Classical Healing
By Ben Ohmart - 05/21/2007 - 10:34 AM EDT

Artist: Tom Barabas
Website: http://www.soundings.com/
Genre: New Age
CD Review:
Whenever I receive a cd from this label, I rejoice. It's one of my favorites, for the simple reason that they employ goodies like Tom here to make the world a better place through music. Not only is this a stylish piece of new age/classical sound, but the Look of it is major label quality and has a few important perks. For instance, on the back of the cd booklet is a little explanation as to Soundings' psychology and what they hope to do with their Washington State-based enterprise. Also explained is the origin of music in relation to healing, by Pythagoras in ancient Greece.

And speaking of the classics that's what we have. 10 tracks, a cd nearing an hour in length, displaying the simple, somber wonders of Bach, Mozart, Debussy, Satie, and even some guy called T. Barabas. First on the menu however is 'Adagio' by T. Albinoni, seeking the mood perfectly with a 7 minute almost gothic texture on the piano. This is a piano album with many instruments to help it along the way and yes, you might call the whole thing gothic as well. It would fit in both genres and corners of the music store with little 2nd thought. 'Suite #3 in D: Air' by J.S. Bach is lovely, rolling out like the score to silk, if that material had a soundtrack all its own. A beauty.

If you're a person who believes in the total health process, I suggest grabbing hold of this cd rather than anything in the classical music section. I guarantee it will reduce the heart rate, and do what Bandaids do.
