CD Review:

Stories, Legends, and Lies is the latest release from Covington, Georgia songwriter, David Leinweber, and showcases his considerable talents on guitar, banjo, and mandolin. These are story songs ranging from Freakout Tent, a remembrance of Woodstock , to Beowulf Suite, an 8 minute salute to the epic hero. He’s joined by Jean Moon on string bass but otherwise carries the load alone.

Leinweber’s ability to tell a story is shown over and over on this CD. Indian Summer tells the story of Native American’s last hurrah against oncoming domination. “That day seemed like a damn good day to die.” Leinweber’s meticulous guitar really shines. He shows off his slide guitar work on Truck Stop Blues, a melancholy tale of a young runaway with nowhere to go. For King of Spain, Leinweber brings out his mandolin. Woman of the Country is a favorite of mine. It’s a sweet love song that rides gently on Leinweber’s slide guitar and strong melody. Midnight Beauty is another favorite. Leinweber’s bluesy guitar run sets the tone for a tale of chance meeting.

Between Leinweber’s excellent guitar work and strong songwriting, Stories, Lies, and Legends is a wonderful listen. It’s meant to be heard on the a country porch with a ball jar of of whiskey in hand. Or on a late night by an open fire. Check out Stories, Lies, and Legends. It won’t disappoint.
