CD Review:

Eclyptic, the boy wonder band from Ohio, spent their teen years dominating the Ohio music scene. Now they have released their second full length CD, When The Night Calls It Quits, and set their sights on world domination. When The Night Calls It Quits does not disappoint.

Consisting of Derik Kroeze on guitar and vocals, Chris Bohrer on guitar and vocals, Danny Kolliner on bass, and Michael Factor on drums, Eclyptic is not the group of fresh-faced kids that appear on their myspace page. These guys are seasoned, veteran rockers and it shows in the music. The first cut, Running In Circles, is a good example. Tight harmonies and a strong hook are anchored by a solid rhythm section.  A Nun, a riff based song written by Bohrer and featuring him on lead vocal, is another example of the excellent songwriting that raises this CD to a higher level.

One of my favorites is, No Evil, a Kroeze penned tune. Another riff based rocker, this funky piece recalls the great 70ís band, Little Feat. New Morning, the final cut on the CD, is a more atmospheric, jam tune that turns anthemic  before fading out into crickets and night noises.

Eclyptic is a fresh, energetic band with a sound thatís bigger than Ohio. Their radio-ready tunes are well written and the boys pull it off with panache. Like the fresh faced teen gunslingers of the old west, these guys donít hesitate to pull the trigger. When The Night Calls It Quits is a fearless foray from a swaggeringly confident band. They donít disappoint.
