CD REVIEW: F.M. Smith - Red Guitar
By Ben Ohmart - 05/21/2007 - 10:34 AM EDT

Artist: F.M. Smith
Website: http://www.fmsmith.net/
Genre: Folk
CD Review:
Soft guitar sounds with a soft FM voice. Some of the songs are the personal sort that you know would never be on a cd if it weren't the artist's own. Which are often my favorite. Then there are the 'solid' songs like 'Envious' that most music publishers would welcome. Good melody hidden among the lite performance, and lyrics of 'I saw you smiling. no one was looking. / felt like a dagger in my heart / they're all in love with you. no one begrudges you. / you've been their hero from the start.' This is the sort of stuff you can just groove too, grass or no grass. Put on a little ice tea, make sure the lights are low, don't do a damn thing, or snuggle up to your girl, and make sure the music is Just loud enough to hear. Now you're ready for a subliminal fishing trip with the words right in front of you.
