CD REVIEW: The LA Carpool - When Worlds Collide
By Ben Ohmart - 05/21/2007 - 10:34 AM EDT

Artist: The LA Carpool
Website: http://www.lacarpool.com/
Genre: Latin
CD Review:
What worlds? Why, the Latin and the rock of course! You see, Latin music is known the world over for being high-energy party music. It doesn't fluctuate much like ballads or classical music, so it's perfect for making that car trip exciting and shorter than usual. Plus, you don't have to turn it up when trucks pass you. And for just that reason, it's best to Carpool.

'Mi Guajira' is just 3 and a half minutes long, but the dancing will continue on into the night. I had a headache when I tried to listen to the cd before, and I had to set it aside until the throbbing passed. These 10 songs aren't conducive to caressing, caring relaxation. It's Miami Sound Machine and conga and constant rhythm, recorded loud. No reprieve from the volume. Watch out.

The formula is: Faith Rivera sings in front of a group of happy guys who continue to harmonize. Still more men take up the carnival of instruments that don't let up. There are Latin Grammies now, ya know. I've no doubt Faith and her champions will find themselves there in the coming years.
