CD Review: Somewhere between the poppy tongue-n-cheek sounds of the 80's bands English Beat and the crisp, melodic guitar driven rock of A Flock Of Seagulls, lies a modern incarnation of Power Pop, courtesy of The Attorneys, a band from New York that makes listening to music an interesting and enjoyable proposition.

While the retro 80's vibe on this project may or may not be intentional, the musicality and production are outstanding and serve as the perfect backdrop to the refined lyrics and energetically engaging vocal performances that are the signature of this project. The individual songs that exemplify this are "Don't Want To Talk About It," which easily merits attention as a radio single with its strong rythm section and fluid instrumentation, and "Open Up To Me," a tune that's surprisingly funky and benefits from a melodic baseline that's reminiscent of 70's disco mavens, Chic. Both tracks are hot and refreshingly unpredictable.

With the creation of Stereocracy, The Flying Macines make a very strong case from start to finish for being Muse's Muse Award contenders for best Alternative Pop/Rock band of 2007.
