CD Review: The debut CD from vocalist/songwriter/beat box specialist/American Idol finalist, Blake Lewis, is everything that you would imagine it would be: fresh, fun, innovative, and all over the map musically.

All of Blake’s influences are detectable on this project. The Musiq inspired “Know My Name” featuring Lupe Fiasco is sure to arouse the interest - if not win the affections - of the hip hop community. “Hate 2 Love Her” will appeal to fans of Maroon 5, but it’s on his most commercial tracks, the Depeche Mode flavored “How Many Words,” and “Here’s My Hello” that he arrives at his true identity and best vocal performances. AC and AAA radio would be amenable to the lone ballad, “Without You,” which is reminiscent of the late Savage Garden hits.

It's important to note that unlike the other graduates of American Idol, Blake was allowed (by executive producer Clive Davis) to write all (but one) of the songs that appear on his freshman project. That makes him anomally. It also makes him accountable for his success. Overall, this CD, like Blake's talent, has a lot of potential...it's just a matter of what's done with it.
