Musichound World : The Essential Album Guide by Adam McGovern (Editor), Jack Vartoogian (Photographer), Linda Vartoogian (Photographer)
A Book Review by Ben Ohmart
AGAIN, we are threatened with another fine publication from the music nerds at the Hound. It seems they have nothing better to do than to sit around all day listening to every cd in existence, and capitalizing on that wealthy knowledge by shoving each genre into a really Fat book. 100s of pages. Plus a cd of the best of the lot, or at least what you should hear. This volume goes into the hard to find, hard to understand, hard to choose from division of worldly music. Not only are the music entries expanded with paragraphs and paragraphs of info on the artist and his/her albums, but the supply of artists is such that few people are left out. Great for research, for impossible to find info, and best of all, for the novice, there's no better starting point. A fat index, a section for awards, and which albums are worth 5 bones (the rating system they use), plus a listing of mags and books where you can find out more info. Oh, and where to locate all this stuff. The hardest part - and you get worthy help on that.
