CD REVIEW: The Brotherhood of the Rose - That's The Way I Feel
By Ben Ohmart - 05/21/2007 - 10:34 AM EDT
Artist: The Brotherhood of the Rose
Genre: Pop
CD Review:
I don't know if it's correct or not, but the backing stuff for the title song sounds like an old organ my grandmother used to have: you pick the backing rhythm you want, and with one button touch, you've got a Latin shimmy or a country slide coming at you. This small sound doesn't seem to fit with the very good voice singing award-winning songs. Yes, these 2 Rose brothers (1's a composer, 1's a lyricist) have won a few awards, like an ASCAP Songwriting Award, a National Songwriters' Network Award, probably others. There's no getting around the supreme pop appeal of the songs, but the arrangements sometimes leave something to be desired. (Also, I'm not sure if the duet side of the title song is supposed to be 2 guys singing to each other, to a woman, or if it's supposed to be (as I assume) just an echo of the 1 guy singing. Since it's the same voice, the way it's done I find a little.. odd.) Still, the songwriting is the champ here. Though the voice could be on Broadway really it's got that kind of perfection and appeal that makes you think of modern Disney cartoon heroes. I like.
