CD REVIEW: Christine - 2nd Skin (single)
By Ben Ohmart - 05/21/2007 - 10:34 AM EDT
Artist: Christine
Genre: Pop
CD Review:
The latest 1 name diva comes from Australia, a 14 year old voice that is amazingly adult for the vocals she gives out. The main song here, '2nd Skin', is mixed 3 different times, all with the same vocal (it seems), with the last of the 4 tracks being a cover of Phil Collins' 'Against All Odds Take a Look At Me Now'. The original song, written by producer/drummer/multi-instrumentalist Paul Kneipp, is pure pop, with plenty of bang, guitar, and filled with exceptionally easy to grasp lyrics. The production and sound is polished and exciting, showing off Christine's grown-up words all the more. Several of the remixes will remind you of A-Teens and what they shook out of ABBA.
It's sad when you think of it. Kids are growing up faster with each added generation, whether it's in the realm of knowledge of computer, plumbers or singers. They're learning their craft from a womb-early age, not only knowing what notes to avoid, but how to posture and mince with the best of them. Christine has a good jump start on her competition, being a cute blonde who Can sing. And I know for a fact that if the right people stay behind her, talent Will win the war.
