CD Review: Dan Ferrari, a singer/songwriter/musician from New York, proves that he is in a league of his own by aptly demonstrating that he has the lyrical prowess and refined songwriting skills of a seasoned veteran on his sophomore project. With the help of his producer, John Lardieri, he captures and presents strong vocal performances that are effusive, penetrating, and perfectly framed. The tracks have a live performance vibe that aids them in feeling more organic and less produced - which works well for the emotive qualities of Dan's voice and the purity of the accompanying instrumentation.

The most commercial track on this CD, “Never Not Want You,” is an up-tempo, drum-driven, vocal narrative about unrequited love and the burning desire that we think we will always have for a lost love. The haunting chorus lingers and practically begs for you to sing-a-along with it, as does the hook on the project’s best song, “Stuck In My Head,” which Dan performs with palpable sincerity and descriptive honesty when using phrases like:

In my sleep…she’s floating all around me in my dreams...
I can taste her skin and take her in when I breathe…
I can concentrate on something else but it’s hard for me…
It’s like she’s just inches away…
Every since I heard her whisper, I’m surrounded by her word…
Every since I kissed her lips, the outside world is such a blur

What can I say the girl is stuck in my head…
just one time with her and there’s no way I can forget it…
She’s got a way of staying stuck in my head…and I’m going crazy until the next time I see her again

As you delve deeper into this project, the high quality of the songs and Dan’s performance of them, will keep you firmly entrenched. When he finally breaks away from the boy-meets-girl scenarios that dominate the themes on this disc, he delivers “Heard From You,” a song about the experience of abandonment which slows down things long enough for introspection; making his vulnerability accessible to others and further proving his depth as a songwriter.

Other standout tracks, “Blanket,” “Naked,” and the Goo Goo Dolls-inspired song that every guy needs to keep a copy of for when he screws up, “Turning Into Someone Else,” enhance and solidify this project.
