CD Review:
David Stern is a classical composer that has already created orchestral compositions and musical works of a certain importance. He grew up in the late 60’s early 70’s during the peace movement and this experience reflects in his music and particularly in this album.
The cd is focused on a social themes and the priority is the message it conveys. The lyrics are perfect for their purpose, I would have loved to have them in the booklet as they are essential to this record. This album contains words of peace and fraternity, and dedications to people like John Lennon, Martin Luther King and Gandhi. The emphasis on the message does not take away anything from the beauty of music and vocals.
The style is folk-pop, mainly ballads. The sounds are acoustic. There are various different vocals on the album and this adds some variety and keeps your attention focused. Sometimes it lack a bit of sprightliness and originality, but I guess this comes from the fact that he is trying to recreate that sense of peace throughout the whole work. It is a record you should listen in a quiet place, from beginning to end, that way it will deliver its whole sense of peacefulness.
