CD Review:
For those who think that Duffy is going to be the next Amy Winehouse, you can stop wishing that evil fate upon her. Duffy, the Welsh singer/songwriter whose debut project RockFerry showcases a more serene, albeit less powerful singer who displays great vocal control a la Deniece Williams, and the ability to emote with sincerity - a refreshing departure from the new crop of female divas who are clearly more concerned with style over substance.
“Stepping Stone” is a dramatic and sparse production that heavily features strings which enable you to feel Duffy’s conviction. It will resonate with women who have been in relationships where they have been treated in a less than ideal manner due to a man’s lack of commitment. That demographic alone is large enough to make it a hit. Add some key television and film placements and this song can have a very long shelf life.
