CD Review:
Hailing from the Philly area,
Effusion 35 is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Pat Manley. Playing riff heavy rock in the style of
Creed, Manley's influences include The Velvet Underground, Nirvana, and Led
Zeppelin. The band was originally founded by Manley and bassist Sean Hamill.
The band's original drummer, Joe Napolean switched to guitar and the band
recruited drummer, Randy Robbins to pick up the sticks. Stonewind is their debut album. The band
shares writing credits on three songs and the rest were written by Manley. The
first cut, Placebo highlights the band's pop sensibilities. A mid tempo
rocker, it's reminiscent of REM with jangly guitars and a somewhat buried
vocal. The next cut, Calm, is a full out rocker. The distorted guitar
and driving drum set the tone right from the start. The third cut, Nothing
Gets Done, was co written by Napolean, Robbins, and Manley. It's my
favorite cut on the CD and leads me to believe that they should share the
writing duties a little more. The title cut, Stonewind, was written by
Manley and Napolean, and is also one of the stronger cuts on the album. Stonewind is a fine first effort. Let's hear
more.
