CD REVIEW: Dean Freeman - Give Me Time (EP)
By Ben Ohmart - 05/21/2007 - 10:34 AM EDT
Artist: Dean Freeman
Genre: Rock
CD Review:
4 songs and 16 minutes later, I'm impressed with what I've just heard. Dean can rock with the best of them. His 4 minute 'Give Me Time' is just pleasing to the ears - lots of things going on here, yet the skeleton isn't complex. Plenty of loud guitar, backing vocals, and a mixer from hell. In fact, you should see Dean's intro sheet that comes with the cd. If I could drop as many names as he does, I would! He works with lots of famous, and of course unknown, session players and behind the scenes gals and guys that makes this into a sound that's up there with Billboard stuff. He says, 'Most of these guys went to my college and none of us graduated. We took the time and effort to develop soundscapes because musical audiences are so sophisticated. It's become to important, I think, to the potential success of a song to have something sonically unique that you can't overlook it anymore and still have success.' Sage stuff. Luckily the songs are just as cleverly intelligent.
