CD REVIEW: Jengurl - Stick a Fork In It
By Ben Ohmart - 05/21/2007 - 10:34 AM EDT

Artist: Jengurl
Genre: Alternative Pop
CD Review:
Boy, I'm glad the lyrics are included, because the vocals for 'Hi Heels' are like trying to get info out of someone who's just swallowed a bottle of sleeping pills. Ooop, she's going to sleep again. 'hi heels, as I stand here wobbling / I have no center of gravity in your hands / what I don't have, not alot / whored it all, horde it all away and open / a thrift store'. Okay, she's not making sense. Nurse!

Well, it's not that bad. Actually the songs are good, the vocals are certainly individual. 'Rain in Hershey' is a waltz in the soft pop direction. Is that an accordion I hear? 'there is rain in hershey and clouds above me / and still they can't wash away these doubts / within me across the wire from the words / that you cannot say'. Alternative pop, and radiantly realized.
