CD Review:
Jonathan Kingham, the
singer/songwriter/musician with the breathy tenor that leaves women
breathless, has completed his sophomore project and it reflects a new
level of sophistication that both his female-and male fans-will
appreciate.
From the opening track, "She's So California,"
establishes itself as the definitive commercial track with its
intriguing storyline about the difficulties of wooing a California girl
who seems perfect, yet imperfect. It builds in both interest and
intensity with it's understated, but sterling piano and drum
performances which decisively take a back seat to Jonathan's golden
vocals. The only thing you won't like about it is that it ends.
Much
like an onion, this CD has many layers, which when peeled, reveal a new
musical and emotional nuance - and can make you cry. "Grace,"
epitomizes the duality of Jonathan's songwriting prowess. It's a song
about recognizing and appreciating unconditional love that women love
to hear. It contains words that men wish they were adept at expressing.
Other noteworthy tracks include the seductive, radio-ready, "Please Come Close,"
which is bound to make hearts melt...and clothes drop to the floor with
its compelling lyrics and flirtatious string arrangement. The perfect
complement (or the morning after song) is "Can't Get To The End Of You," with it's feel-good organ accompaniment. "Let Em Go,"
which is about moving on and allowing yourself to experience love
again, adds depth and dimension, as well as the narrative, "We're All Just Trying To Get By."
If your expectations have become crooked as a result of exposure to bad songwriting, Jonathan Kingham can Smooth Out The Lines with his superior talents and help you discover real songwriitng again.
