CD Review:

Passion, a San Francisco Bay Area based R&B singer/songwriter/musician, turns in his first official musical offering. Best described as a cross between a demo and a completed project, it fully displays his talent…and his passion.

Armed with a smooth tenor that conjures up thoughts of what Ne-Yo would sound like if he had a fuller voice, Passion delivers songs that showcase his superior songwriting talents which are highlighted by his emotive vocals.

The opening song, and most commercially viable track, “Mrs. Intuition,” is a sassy, up-tempo that contains a pleasant surprise in the form of a bossa nova break-down, which adds a unique stroke of flair and personality to an already solid musical composition.

Throughout this project, song’s like the poignant “Vienna” (about the optimism of long distance love), and “Desperately” (about putting it all on the table to save a love gone astray), Passion makes his case – a very strong case – for being one of the most genuine R&B singers to emerge in decades.

While his ardent tenor and effusive guitar playing create the perfect matrimony with the rawness of the R&B genre, a Disney-esque track, “Stephanie,” appears unexpectedly. The song is beckoning for soundtrack placement, and Passion’s melodic vocals perfectly complement and capture the nuances of the production and storyline.

With an EP this good, Passion may soon own more than a paper airplane.
