CD Review: The Skuffle box is an old cheap Peruvian musical instrument which was more recently used in Spain by Flamenco musicians. It is also called Flamenco Cajon, that means box. Kevin Healy brought one of these home, introduced it to some musician friends and named it Skuffle box. And so the idea of this record was born and the band started working on it. Most of the tracks are played with this peculiar instrument that makes all this album unique.

This cd contains 16 rock cover tracks by the Skuffle. They are all played acoustically. The songs are well chosen among the best of rock of the past 3 decades and it is a pleasure listening to some old classics like “Black in black”, “Crazy little thing called love”, Sunshine of your love”, “Sweet child of mine”, “Come together” and many more.

This band have the rare ability of making covers with a special soul imprint, they do not look like covers: they sound like original songs from Skuffle but with that special familiar feeling . Often cover albums are bad copies or boring versions. Instead they succeed in making “their” album by using some of the best rock tunes available. You listen to the whole record from beginning to end with pleasure and often you find yourself singing along with them. Their  voices are really beutiful with an extremely impressive layered vocal arrangements. They can reach difficult high notes easily and have a magic blend that just a few vocal group can achieve.

Let’s hope to hear more from them in the future.
