CD REVIEW: Ric Sven - Hidden Mantras
By Ben Ohmart - 05/21/2007 - 10:34 AM EDT

Artist: Ric Sven
Genre: Folk
CD Review:
You might call it instrumental acoustic folk, but it's almost simpler than that. Ric records live, straight to the hard drive, and makes his music the natural way, nearly like those women on the tv commercials yelling, washing their hair, having a very organic experience. If the playing were any more natural here, it would be obscene. It's not WOW or masterful Jimi Hendrix stuff, it's quiet time. It's a non-boring yawn, it's watching a cat slowly walk across the back yard, seeing it through half-awake, hazy eyes. Listen for the sway of the trees, grab a subliminal coffee cup without the caffeine and partake of primal afternoon sleep.
