CD REVIEW: Amy Syd - Inner Landscape
By Ben Ohmart - 05/21/2007 - 10:34 AM EDT
Artist: Amy Syd
Genre: Folk
CD Review:
1st 4 songs are quite folk and personal oriented, like a mother giving her daughter a musical diary, or leaving it buried in the backyard for her to come upon later on. But then we get to my favorite song - 'Side by Side', with some nice, simple chorus work, saying a few things like 'wish we have a place to be / behind a rock, beneath a tree / I'd sing a song of ecstasy / for 1 chose you and you chose me'. And then Amy gets very theatrical with 'Out of the Blue', much like something you'd hear off-Broadway, without the pomp and budget. 'you sat across the table from me / drinking your beer and looking fine / then you told me that you're finished with me / out of the blue, it's all a lie / (out of the blue, it's all a lie)". But the cd is mostly acoustic guitar, fresh, soft, slow to medium tempo. 12 songs with a light heart.
