CD Review:
The beauty of instrumental jazz is that it provides you with a blank canvas upon which you can paint your own thoughts. On the latest project from the San Francisco based quartet, Times 4, you may be influenced – or inspired – to think about relations…adult relations…sexual relations.
While the disc successfully captures the ensemble chemistry of the quartet, there are seized moments that the individual players have the opportunity to shine such as Kevin Lofton on bass in "Thickness," Maurice Miles on drums in "Enterlude," Greg Sankovich on Keys in "Cell Phone," and Lincoln Adler on sax in "Full Moon."
The most commercial tracks are the radio-ready, "Mojito," "M.O.," and “Central Park ,” which are definitive pieces that will satisfy jazz enthusiasts, but it's the title track, "Relations," which is the show-stopper. It's a musical masterpiece that covers all 4 phases of Masters and Johnson's human sexual response cycle and it’s sure to be your favorite.
This CD is an accurate representation of what Times 4 has to offer in concert, but if you can’t see them live, put this CD on in your bedroom and it will be like having the band perform live during your relations.
