New York, NY, November 22, 2015—The Jambalaya Brass Band will perform honoring the legendary New Orleans musician Allen Toussaint on November 28th, 2015 at noon in Washington Square Park, New York City. Allen Toussaint recently passed away and a New York City Funeral will be held to celebrate his life and his body of work.

The parade route will begin at Holley Square – east of the Arch in Washington Square Park and will follow the perimeter of the park. The Jambalaya Brass Band will lead the parade in a traditional New Orleans manor beginning with well known funeral dirges and leading the participants into the up-beat rebirth tempos that are the signatures of New Orleans Jazz Funerals.

Both of the Jambalaya Brass Band’s CDs, It’s a Jungle Out There and On the Funky Side, resulted in heavy broadcast radio rotation nationwide, as well as countless national and worldwide Internet radio stations, and charted in the top five of the CMJ Charts, reaching a high chart positions on the JazzWeek Jazz Chart, The Roots Music Report and the Cashbox Charts. It is only fitting that the Jambalaya Brass Band leads the celebration of Allen Toussaint’s life.

The band’s foundation will be provided by Ralph Hamperian on tuba, Andrew Gillespie on snare drum, and Chauncey Yearwood on Bass Drum & cymbal—and this rhythm section cooks on high octane, so be sure to wear your dancing shoes! Filling out this tasty gumbo and adding the spice on top will be the trombone of Stafford Hunter, the trumpets of Satoru Ohashi and Mark McGowan, and the tenor sax of leader and founder Ric Frank, an alumnus of the Duke Ellington Orchestra.

" Jambalaya could stand side-by-side with . . . any New Orleans brass band in terms of sheer exuberance and energy . . . a party from start to finish."—Henry Smith for All About Jazz

The Jambalaya Brass Band is a group of seasoned musical pros from a variety of impressive previous musical settings as diverse as the Duke Ellington Orchestra to the Lounge Lizards, yet they have a knack for integrating these disparate musical experiences into one dynamic setting. These seasoned New York purveyors of authentic American ‘roots’ music play a delightful spicy musical gumbo of New Orleans fare influenced by the likes of Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Rebirth and Dirty Dozen brass bands, straight through to the heights of their own modern sounds that incorporate elements of R&B, Gospel, Funk, Latin and Be-bop. They embody the history of the best American music of the last hundred years while at the same time suggesting a prescient trajectory of America’s musical future. The Band’s arrangements are original and innovative while the playing is simultaneously precise and spontaneous, yet all is conceived with imagination and wit. After-all, this is New Orleans party music and Jambalaya Brass Band is always a joyous musical celebration as they have proven on many occasions. On the Funky Side is a rollicking musical journey and a great celebration of American music while at the same time an appetizing preview of what this group is capable of live.
